gasp-mask ( a poem for a muddled monday )

with twinkled toes as carrots glow

of breadcrumb trails & speckled hens

we bullwhip fro

& echo so

as hamsters hymn from fen to glen


with missing holes as muesli bowls

on gangrene greens & magpies sigh

we vault the foal

& scroll the stroll

as lizards squint in liquid skies


with scarpered flows as hedgerows woe

for biscuits broke & rebel wrens

we nose our blow

& crow our show

as swordfish fight the plastic pen


with jigsawed souls as bakers roll

in puddled pools & pylons pry

we salt the vole

& kiss the mole

as bubble burp - it's late july

the sky was mute & toothpaste stains

as high was goats & ghostly trains

the runes were prunes

come roughly noon

so groan a moan so did the drains


the clouds were shrouds of spout again

as swans sang songs & tea leaves strained

the wind blew clues

as orchards bruised

& flung dung stuck on paintings framed


the scene was snared & paired as twain

as cats spat on the window pane

the sun's balloon

was but a spoon

so dogs were frogs - the rest is rain

as fathead hemlock sparrows whales

& cottage combat jigsaws snails

as bootleg chieftains swarm the sprite

& twenty werewolves probe the dales


as blistered gypsies bumper balls

& vacant hipbones portal walls

as hittite hopscotch flops the night

& heatstroke beeswax warps the sprawl


as killjoy gymnasts blunt the quail

& northern pinwheels stump the ale

as hellfire hunchbacks guild the kite

& sacred crayons rib the gale


as shotgun whitsuns goat the scrawl

& potluck penguins coat the shawl

as freckled foghorns frog the blight

i sit & watch - absorb it all

as laundry maids mangle

& trespassers trample

as tabloid scum scandal

i dangle at angles


as hearty shelves mantle

& eggy codes scramble

as connoisseurs sample

i jangle me ankles


as sequins all spangle

& bracelets all bangle

as birthdays blow candles

i tried to feel thankful


but delayed trains cancel

& wrong'un folk strangle

i dangle at angles

muddles in puddles & jumbles in socks

dawdles through portals & pennies in slots

sun on my earlobes

& wind up my nose

saunters through old haunts & vest strings in knots


dithers in rivers & riddles in keys

bubbles in bobbles & knobbles in knees

oh in my so-so

& on in my flow

shadows are breadcrumbs & questions are trees


pistols in pistons & crystals in rocks

ponies in shell suits & donkeys in frocks

search for those echoes

through to & its fro

poems are hidden in wheres & their whats


wanders in ponders & sonnets in bees

haiku in sky blue & bollocks in me

yon lie the meadows

yes, soon we are home
