after the discharge

~

after the discharge ( egrahcsid eht refta )

since my nurse dispersed

& evaporated

      like a tin of milk

or a sundae on the sun

as the doctors turned

& faced a flu religion

      baring hair shirts

      upon their lips & nostrils

all is rubber walls

sputum in a gale

      see the weasels scurry

      them that banged the pots

‘bet they watch the telly

& laugh at ant ‘n’ dec

      – yonder, palmate newts

      & fire salamanders

fall from welkin heights

splatter like rain

      normalz hides indoors

      never lives again

as the right dog barks

up the wrong fig tree

      yes, the world went mad

      when i became sane
